Water and Sewer Rates
The water you receive is already lime-softened, there is no need for softening at home. This process is costly and is reflected in the rates:
- Water Rate: $29.00 minimum per quarter plus $3.52 per thousand gallons used (up to 100,000 gallons).
- Sewer Rate: $58.00 minimum per quarter plus $3.70 per thousand gallons used.
Rates effective as of 1-1-13 and are subject to change.
The minimum charge does not include any usage and is billed to you even if the meter is pulled for the winter. These rates are for residential customers with 5/8" or 3/4" meters.
Leaks Are Costly:
Try to discover and repair leaks immediately. Here are some illustrative examples of household leaks and the costs involved:

Here Are Some Tips On How To Find Leaks:
- Take the cover off the toilet tank. Add enough food coloring to the tank to give strong color to the tank water. Let it stand or sit overnight. If toilet bowl has turned color of the dye, you have a toilet leak.
- Look and listen. Take off the tank cover and see if the water is running into the overflow tube and also carefully listen for leaks. Don't rely completely on this test as only extreme leaks can be seen or heard.
- Watch for meter movement. To test the entire building or house for leaks, try this suggestion. First, find the water meter and place a toothpick over the meter pointer. Don't use any water for 15 minutes. After that time, if the pointer has moved, there is a leak somewhere in the house (most likely a toilet).
Here Are Some Service Tips and Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
- Turn your water off at the meter if you're leaving for the winter (or even for a week).
- In order to avoid the minimum quarterly charge, you must have had your service discontinued for at least one year, then you will no longer be billed for this charge. Requests to discontinue service must be made by the homeowner in writing.
- Lateral Responsibility. The lateral from the main to the curb stop (buffalo box) is the responsibility of the Water and Sewer Dept. The section from curb stop to the house is the responsibility of the homeowner.
- Meter pit: The meter pit is the responsibility of the homeowner. It must be maintained and kept in good repair by the homeowner.
- Meter: The instrument that actually measures the amount of water you use is the meter located in the basement, crawl space, pit, etc. The outside remote reader (on the outside of your building) connects to the meter via a wire. This outside reader is the instrument the meter readers look at when obtaining your water reading. It is a good idea to check these readings periodically to make sure they match, It is also the homeowner's responsibility to keep the meter from freezing and insuring the meter is accessible to Village employees for testing, repairs, readings, etc.
- Sewer lateral. The homeowner is responsible for the sewer lateral from the main to the house. Should you experience trouble with your lateral, call the Water and Sewer Dept. first, to make sure the trouble you're having isn't the sewer main in the street.
- Sewer Credit: If you experienced a water leak and this leak did not end up in the sanitary sewer, you might be able to receive a credit on the sewer portion of your bill. The credit is given only after immediate verification by the Water and Sewer Dept.
- Curb Stop or Buffalo Box: The homeowner is responsible to keep the curb stop free from dirt, landscaping and driveway repair.
- Final Bills: All final bills must be read from the meter inside, not the remote reader. No final reading will be taken unless its from the meter inside.
- No customer may tamper or remove a meter. Call the water Dept. at 262-245-2707 to have you meter removed or reinstalled.

Under Public Service Commission regulations, household water meters must be tested for accuracy once every ten (10) years. Meters may be tested by appointment between the hours of 7am and 2 pm on weekdays. If you know your meter hasn't been tested in the last ten years, please call the Water Dept. at 245-2707 to make an appointment for this test. If you receive a letter from the Water Department asking to test your meter, please make an appointment to do so promptly. With the influx of summer residents, the task of meter testing is difficult because we must schedule a time to perform the test. With this in mind, try to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
