Recycling, Compost, & Refuse

Composting and Recycling

The Village will collect recyclables at the curbside along with your refuse on the day assigned to you. Monday is the collection day for the east side of town and Tuesday- the west side. All recyclables can be co-mingled in the recycling bin, but care should be taken to remove rings and rinse containers out.

Items to recycle include:

  • Any plastic with an @ symbol
  • All glass containers regardless of their color
  • Metal containers: aluminum, bi-metal and steel
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Office paper
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Waste oil placed in a non-returnable, sealed container

"To Our Valued Customers: The State of Wisconsin requires licensed waste haulers to notify their customers annually of recycling laws.

This is a reminder that state and local recycling laws require everyone in Wisconsin to recycle newspaper, office paper, magazines, and cardboard. Also glass, plastic, tin and aluminum containers, tires, yard waste, appliances, and motor oil.

You can call our office for more information, or visit the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Thank you for your compliance with these state laws."

Refuse Collection

It is the responsibility of the owner or occupant of a residence to have their household garbage at the curbside on pick-up day.

  • Pick up day for the east side of the Village (using the beach house as the center point) is Monday.
  • The pick-up day for the west side of the Village is Tuesday.

Once the garbage collectors have passed a certain street, they will not return. If you are out of town on your pick-up day, arrange for a friend or neighbor to put out your garbage and pick up your cans when emptied.

Garbage cans placed throughout the Village park system are for park use only.

Remember that this service is for household garbage only. The garbage collector will not pick up leaves, grass clippings, construction materials, appliances, etc.

Some items can be disposed of by contracting a private refuse collector. If a private refuse collector is needed, the Village will not pay for these services.

The nearest landfill is Mallard Ridge located on Highway 11, west of Delavan. Their phone number is (262) 724-3257.
